Avengers: Twilight #1 Review

Avengers Twilight #1 - Written by Chip Zdarsky, art by Daniel Acuna

I've had the maxim that "Chip Zdarsky can do no wrong" for a while now, and Avengers Twilight #1 is no exception to that rule. Avengers Twilight is shaping up to be a smash up of Earth X meets Kingdom Come meets The Dark Knight Returns, but with it's own twists and turns. The story is very Dark Knight Returns in issue #1, with Steve Rodgers being old and depowered, and trying to find his place in a fascist United States. There are some familiar (albeit old) faces in the issue, with some incredible flashback scenes as to what the disaster was that caused the current situation. The first issue sets up the world very nicely and speeds up the exposition, so I'm very much looking forward to the rest of the series. The writing from Chip and the incredible art from Acuna really made that flashback scene tragic and one of the best set of panels in comics probably for the entire year of 2024. The Alex Ross cover is majestic as usual too. So here is hoping this becomes the next great "The Heroes Lose" story in comics, been a hot minute since we had a great one.
